Sullivan is the newest member to the family. He lives in Charleston and like all Lab puppies, he likes sleeping, playing, and chewing. This day, he was taking a walk on Isle of Palms beach.

The first shot is what I usually see when I go out to take a picture of Max. He sees the camera and that is it. He is going a mile a minute the whole time that I am in the yard with the camera. Today, I got the rare opportunity for a portrait. Actually, I had to really kick the shutter speed up and use a fast flash to grab a stationary picture.

What is it about cats and Christmas trees. This is the favorite time of the year for the cats. They just love hanging out under the lights and decorations, of course they also like to sneak a few off the tree to play with when no one is looking

This is Cry Baby. He lives at the Grace Community Center in Steertown, Jamaica. Even though Soccer, Lilly, Little Missy, Hershey, and Max have not met Cry Baby in person, he is a special friend of the family.

Little Missy the Tuna Hound

Little Missy has become quite a tuna hound. Every morning when I am making my lunch for work, this crazy cat about drives me nuts until I open the can and pour some of the tuna water into the sink for her. What a treat! As soon as I come into the room she starts hanging out by the can opener waiting. If I am too slow, she is sure to protect the precious cargo until opening time.

Why is it that cats will crawl into anything that you put down, even for just a minute? I guess it is just the cozy feeling that it gives them. Soccer will crawl into any box there is. It dosen't matter whether big or little, if he can fit you can bet he will be there.

Ever since Little Missy moved in, Lilly keeps an open eye for a chance to harass the new kitty in the house. These two think it is great fun to hiss at and chase each other. I don't know if they will ever be friends. I just hope that they will at least tolerate each other.

New Cat in the House

Due to a recent move, Little Missy needed a new place to live and has moved in full time with her cousins Soccer and Lilly. She has adapted very well to the humans in the house, but getting along with her cat cousins is taking more effort. Soccer and Missy seem to be coming to an agreement to ignore each other, but there is still a lot hissing and fighting between Lilly and Missy.. Oh, well. Maybe there will be peace in the house one day.

In Memory of Casey

Today we lost a wonderful loving cat and a true friend of the last 16 years. Casey first came to live with us after being adopted from the SPCA. He and Danny, were adopted on the same day. When we brought them home, you could hold one in each hand. They were so tiny. We lost Danny a few years ago and then Max and Hershey came to live with us. Casey was the most loving cat and friend right up to the end. With all his medical problems, he just finally gave out. He will really be missed.

If you lay down, Soccer thinks it is his duty to come and protect you while you sleep. Of course it may just be that he likes to snuggle. At any rate, you always have a friend at nap time.

While Max is going wild chasing the ball and running from the camera, Hershey just sits around quietly watching the action. Every now and then if the ball comes close, she will grab it just to make Max mad. Most of the time she thinks Max waste way too much energy.

I spent some time in the back yard with Max and Hershey today. I took a bunch of pictures trying to get something in focus of Max. While we were play fetch, and he was getting pretty tired, I was able to get this shot. Normally he is running around the yard at full speed if I even point the camera at him.

Almost as hard as taking a picture of a black cat is trying to take a picture of a hyper black dog. Actually it may be even harder, at least the cat will stay still. Hershey will usually sit quietly by and pose for a picture, but not Max. As soon as he sees the camera, he starts going a mile a minute around the back yard. He will rarely come to rest, and usually not very close by. The only way I was able to get this was to break out the long lens and wait for him to get tired.

Cousin Piper loves to lay around on her new Tree Scratching Post that she got for Christmas. Man, black cats are really hard to get a good exposure when trying to take their picture.

Soccer was also willing to help me test my new "better flash card" that I made for the flash. It worked well to not create harsh shadows.

Casey will soon be 16 years old. Even though he eats all the time, he only weighs a little less than 6 pounds. He has a tyroid problem that keeps him so thin, but as old as he is and as poor of heath that he is in, he is about the most loving cat you can imagine.

Another cousin, Mr. Big Boy came once for Christmas. Since he does not do well in the house, he stayed at All Paws Kennels. His sister stayed at the house with the rest of the cats. He was visited every day while he was there.

This is Max. I think he has doggy ADD or something. He can not stay still for a minute, especially if a camera comes out. He constanly runs around the yard and will never stand still for a picture like his sister Hershey. Max and Hershey came from the same litter, believe it or not. They look nothing alike. The litter had some chocolate lab looking puppies like Hershey, some like Max, and at least one black and white spotted.

This is Casey, the old man of the group. He is over 15 years old and not in very good health. He takes thyroid medicine daily. He does have to keep the younger cats in line, however. Favorite pastime is waiting on the kitchen counter for someone to open a can of tuna.

Its me Soccer, and I am a handsome dude if I do say so myself. As you can see I am the cat's meow. Before long you will be meeting the "and friends" of this blog. You will get to meet the old man, Casey, my older brother. You will also meet my "little sister" Lilly. I also have a brother and sister, Max and Hershey. I think they are adopted.. They live outdoors and are real dogs.
